Given the chaos that unfolds soon after the tutorial, its solidly high frame rate on Xbox Series X (version tested) proved crucial to making its manic gameplay more palatable it's the right priority for Capcom to have. Exoprimal isn’t spectacular at any one thing–not right now, at least–but the sum of its parts creates a surprisingly compelling casual arcade shooter.Įxoprimal isn’t the most graphically groundbreaking game, but it’s colorful, nicely detailed, and smooth. Hip-fire shooting is loose, and not hugely improved by aiming down the sights.Īnd yet, as you learn your special moves, new suits and classes, and all those fun, daft things like the opportunity to turn into an actual dinosaur(!!!), everything begins to click. Jumping is boosted, meaning restricted lateral movement you’ll barely use it for anything other than mantling. It draws attention to Exoprimal’s slightly rickety mechanics while character movement is predictable and mostly sharp, animations make you look like you’re hovering across the floor and generally flapping your legs about. First up is the camera, then movement, then jumping, shooting, aiming, and so on. Its tutorial is one of those where you can’t do a thing or press a button until you’re instructed to use it. Initially, the Exoprimal beta feels quite deflating. ![]()
